Microsoft is making some massive changes in how gamertags work that will affect both Xbox One gamers and eventually Project Scarlett users. The Redmond-based tech giant shared that it has made several tweaks to the gamertags feature underlining that players can now modify their names to whatever it is they want as long as the names are not racists, hateful, and within 12 characters. Simply put, users can use whatever name they like as long as it did not violate the Xbox Live terms and services.
The latest gamertags change only applicable on PC, but the Redmond-based tech giant is planning to introduce the feature to Xbox One as well as on mobile soon. So players who get frustrated before because their names are already taken can now have what they want with a unique numerical identifier. This feature is actually featured by other services like Discord, and it seems that Microsoft is making it a norm.
According to Microsoft, the Xbox One gaming console and mobile app will receive an update soon that will highlight this latest feature. The Redmond-based tech titan also promised that games would follow sometime next year. For players who do not like to have a string of numbers on their names, they can keep their names as-is.
Meanwhile, Microsoft recently confirmed that all current Xbox One controllers would be forward compatible with the next-generation Xbox gaming console. This is great news for gamers since they no longer have to shell out extra cash for a new controller when they purchase the Xbox Scarlett. The news was earlier confirmed by Xbox boss Phil Spencer at the E3 2019.
Now, Xbox Accessories Product Marketing Manager James Shields reaffirmed this fact about controllers. Shields replied to a content creator who shared and confirmed that Xbox Elite V2 will work with Xbox Scarlett when it finally releases next year. The content creator further stated that he is certain that all Xbox One controllers are forward compatible. The product marketing manager confirmed the statement with a comment saying all Xbox One controllers.
