Sony has already announced that its highly anticipated next-generation gaming console will be released sometime in the holidays of 2020. We have also learned more about some key features of Sony's PlayStation 5, giving us an idea of what to expect from the upcoming gaming console. Interestingly, a new patent application reveals that Sony is planning to improve the PS5 controller and it might be equipped with a next-generation feature.

The German site Techstatic recently reported about the patent filed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The latest patent contains several details about the upcoming controller for the PlayStation 5. Additionally, it appears that Sony is borrowing one of the Google Stadia controller's features.

The patent details that the next PlayStation 5 controller, if it comes to fruition, will allow users to connect to the Internet instead of the console directly. It can be seen on the official website of the World Intellectual Property Organization and comes with images that illustrate the controller directly linking to an online server. Although the patent does not directly state that it is for a controller but more of vaguely stating that it is for a controller device, which could be the DualShock 5.

Earlier, another patent filed by Sony Interactive Entertainment surfaced online and revealed that the Japanese console maker could be working on a circular-shaped PlayStation VR controller. These patent applications are interesting if they ever come to fruition. However, it is worth noting that giant tech companies like Sony have a habit of filing patents that often do not make it to the consumers.

However, it is still interesting to learn from these patent filings that Sony considers these cool ideas. While we are optimistic to see these ideas become available to the market soon, we still have to wait for the official announcements from Sony related to these patents. Some reports claim that the latest PlayStation 5 controller patent could be Sony's way of competing with Google Stadia, which is bound to release on November 15.

Meanwhile, we have seen earlier an image of the actual alleged photo of the PlayStation 5 dev kit making rounds online. The image almost looks like the renders made by LetsGoDigital sporting the same V-shaped hardware with several gills. We have already seen the same design from a patent application in August and was even confirmed by a game developer to be the same dev kit that they received from Sony.
