TSMC recently shared its predictions for next year. It reveals that there will be a rise in 5G smartphone shipments. The report also claims that the Cupertino-based tech giant might add the iPhone 12 to this list of 5G smartphones releasing next year. This year, several countries have already started going live with 5G networks.

Along with this advancement in wireless connectivity, smartphone giants like LG and Samsung debuted and rolled out their 5G handsets. More manufacturers are expected to offer smartphones packed with support to the next generation cellular connectivity, with the technology continuously rising in popularity. TSMC has allegedly as a positive picture in terms of 5G smartphone shipments in 2020.

Apple is also rumored to release the iPhone 12 next year with several other more affordable handsets shipping with 5G connectivity. Inside sources claim that TSMC estimates around 300 million smartphones with 5G support arriving in 2020. Several others believe the number would be approximately 200 million and not 300 million units.

The optimistic tone of TSMC could be influenced by the number of orders it has received from its clients. The demand is reportedly overwhelming that the 7nm nodes of the foundry have been running out at full capacity. The dramatic rise in demand, TSMC reportedly plans to spend around $15 billion in capacity and technology this year alone.

This is nearly 50 percent over its initial allocated amount. The budget reportedly will stay the same come 2020. TSMC Chief Executive Officer C. C. Wei allegedly shows that the chip manufacturer is a lot more positive than it was a few months. According to the CEO, the demand for 5G has surpassed the company's expectations.

The company has also changed its estimates for the 5G devices penetration rate for 2020. The previous projection was only in a single digit, but it appears that it has doubled lately. The CEO further claims that the demand will be propelled by tech giants and various countries eager to speed up the roll-out of 5G technology in the next months.

For now, 5G smartphones are a little more expensive compared to standard devices with 4G connectivity. However, next year, more entry-level and mid-range smartphones are anticipated to roll out with 5G connectivity support. Rumors have it that the heavily rumored iPhone 12 from the Cupertino-based tech giant might be released with the name iPhone 5G.

Google is also rumored to release Google Pixel 4 5G next year. But, we suggest that you take this information with a grain of salt since this is just based on predictions and not an official confirmation.
