Next year is going to be a big year for the tech industry with massive and aggressive product launches from industry leaders. One of these leaders is the Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi, which recently announced that it's going to launch an aggressive strategy next year. According to the company's CEO, it will launch 10 5G-ready smartphones in 2020.
At present, the tech industry's buzz word is 5G, and between 125 and 300 million smartphones estimated to be sold in 2020 is anticipated to be 5G-enabled. In other words, almost 20 percent of the shipments happening next year will be consist of 5G smartphones. This could also mean that more networks all over the globe will offer additional support for the next-generation network connectivity to boost its growth and spread.
With the anticipated boom of 5G network connectivity, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi would like to take a slice of the market. During the World Internet Conference, Xiaomi Chief Executive Officer Lei Jun stated that the demand for its first 5G smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro surpassed expectations in China. Because of this, the CEO noted that the company is planning to launch 10 5g-ready smartphone models for 2020.
The CEO also highlighted during the event that Xiaomi will make sure there will be 5G-ready smartphones for everyone, revealing that it will launch handsets on all price points. Lei Jun is also looking forward that operators will be able to pace with the growing demand and expand their stations.
Xiaomi has been very aggressive in its domestic market in China and has already started to breach the international market scene. By strategically launching 5G-ready smartphones on all price points, Xiaomi will be able to cater to all consumer levels, which can eventually help the Chinese smartphone maker increase its share not only in China but in other parts of the world including the UK. Other premium brands like Apple, Huawei, and Samsung will not take this news sitting down.
Apple is reportedly launching a more affordable iPhone SE 2 with some of the iPhone 11 features but at a lower price point. But, it might not yet be 5G-ready when it releases next year. Samsung, aside from developing the next generation Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, could also be working on some kind of affordable 5G-ready smartphone for consumers who prefer more affordable units. Huawei obviously is also working on something, and hopefully, we will get to know these models before the year ends or in the early part of 2020.
