One of the most-awaited features of the iOS 13 this year is the Dark Mode, which popularity had third-party apps and websites replicating the feature. But, the popular mode has proven that it is more than just a cool feature. A recent test conducted by YouTube channel PhoneBuff revealed that iPhone users with their phones on Dark Mode can improve their phones' battery life.

YouTube channel PhoneBuff recently shared one of the reasons why the Dark Mode feature of iOS 13 must always be activated on OLED iPhones. The channel made a test last weekend to determine how much better the feature is for the iPhone's battery life. And, we got a surprising result.

When Apple launched the iOS 13 last month, users were able to switch their iPhones to Dark Mode. PhoneBuff's battery test just proves that activating this popular feature prolongs the battery life of iPhones particularly those models with OLED screens. When you activate the Dark Mode, it switches the background of the iPhone for a much darker version and darker highlights are utilized for the display.

The Dark Mode feature can be activated at a specific time of the day or you can also opt to have the mode permanently turned on. The test conducted by the YouTube channel utilized iPhone XS and robotic arms to perform various things on iOS while the device is in Light Mode and Dark Mode. This includes navigating Google Maps, accessing Messages app, and watching YouTube videos to name a few.

The result is impressive and it turned out that iPhone XS on Dark Mode drained the battery at a far slower pace compared to the iPhone XS on Light Mode. When the iPhone XS on Light Mode died, the iPhone XS on Dark Mode still has 30 percent remaining battery. The test was conducted with the displays set to 200 units brightness.

While there are some noticeable differences between lighter and darker brightness settings, in all scenarios, however, the iPhone XS on Dark Mode outlasted the iPhone XS on Light Mode. The contributing factor that rapidly drains the battery as discovered during the test was the OLED. This means that iPhone models from the iPhone X up to the latest iPhone 11 series excluding iPhone XR and iPhone 11 can drain the battery fast.

It is interesting to note that despite the issues many iPhone users are complaining about the iOS 13, it has this feature that allows iPhone users to save and improve the battery life of the device. We sometimes fail to appreciate the fixes and solutions rolled out with the latest updates because they are always overshadowed by negative things like bugs that create more problems instead of being a solution.
