The Old Lady has announced that the search is on for the younger version of Cristiano Ronaldo, and it appeared the club is targeting candidates on the Liverpool and Tottenham rosters. Reports said Juventus sent scouts to Anfield to check on three names - Mohamed Salah, Christian Eriksen, and Son Heung-mi.
If true, the move by Juventus is in line with the club's recent announcement that the hunt has started for the heir apparent to Ronaldo. The Serie A team is looking not only to continue dominating Italy but also to expand the Juventus brand in Europe.
In pursuit of the mission, scouts were reported to have attended Liverpool's winning home game versus Tottenham, and the focus was on Salah, Eriksen, and Son.
According to Metro, Eriksen was the priority of the scouting mission likely because the Dane is set to end his tour with the Spurs when the season wraps up.
Eriksen has already indicated he will be trying something new when his contract with Tottenham expires. He is already linked with a possible transfer to Real Madrid.
However, it is understood that the Dane and Juventus are ready to sign a pre-contract agreement as early as January next year or a few months before Eriksen is freed of his obligations with the Spurs, per the same Metro report.
Another target move for Juventus is South Korean captain Son, who has been making waves in the Premier League since debuting in 2015. The Daily Mail said Son has logged his 200th game with the Spurs this week and has so far scored 72 goals.
Since acquiring the Korean, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has consistently listed Son as among the club's most important players.
Salah, on the other hand, is a tempting target for Juventus as the Egyptian is rumored to be setting his sight on finding new challenges outside of English football. Former Manchester United Gary Neville has predicted that the striker will make a switch soon, The Daily Mirror reported.
"Salah's going to leave in the next 12 months, I can see it already ... I can see it, you can feel it, you can smell it," Neville was reported as saying.
Juventus' interest in Salah is understandable. While with Roma, a rival of Juventus in Serie A, the Egyptian totaled 34 goals playing in two seasons. Since making the jump to Premier League, Salah has been the competition's top goalscorer in the past two years.
Juventus, however, will need to pay big in acquiring Salah. Liverpool coughed up £38 million for his transfer in 2017, and there is no doubt that value has appreciated considerably given his sterling performances since the exit from Roma.
