Netflix has just released a new trailer for its upcoming series The Witcher and the teaser offers a lot of action-packed scenes. The show also promises some stunning cinematography that will introduce viewers to an entirely new world where monsters roam freely. However, there is one thing that people couldn't get enough of in the trailer and it has nothing to do with magic. Fans are loving the fact that the series has paid tribute to the iconic scene from the video game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt where Geralt of Rivia relaxes in a bathtub.
In the trailer, there is a scene where Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) is shown sitting in a bathtub while Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) lounges behind him. The sorceress tells the White Wolf that people think that Witchers don't feel human emotion. She then asks, "What do you believe in?" as there is another shot of Geralt in the bath, one that is fairly similar to the cut scene from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Although the series is based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, there is a bigger fanbase for the video game adaptation by CD Projekt Red. For instance, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been widely popular due to several glitches where Geralt's horse Roach ends up on a roof or in a pond. The video game also resulted in a meme known as Bathtub Geralt where the protagonist sheds his clothing and relaxes in a tub. With that in mind, it isn't a surprise that the Netflix show has referenced the infamous scene in its new trailer.
Most people would argue that the bathtub scene is not exactly an important part of the story. However, it holds a certain significance in the video games. The cut scene offers a rare glimpse at Geralt of Rivia doing something ordinary rather than heading straight into the action. It confirms that sometimes, a Witcher needs to relax, enjoy a bath, and get squeaky clean.
The Witcher also stars Freya Allen as Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon or simply Princess Ciri, a young girl who discovers she has certain powers. The series will follow Geralt of Rivia as he teams up with Yennefer in an effort to protect Ciri from the forces of evil.
Are you ready for Bathtub Geralt? The Witcher will finally premiere on Netflix on December 20.
