Watchmen episode 5 is set to arrive later this week, and within this episode, we're going to learn more about the history of one of the mysterious characters in the series. Titled "Little Fear of Lightning," the upcoming episode will finally reveal the origin story of Looking Glass.
Watchmen episode 5 will take a look and further explore the past of Looking Glass (Tim Blake Nelson). The promo of the upcoming episode starts with a seemingly younger version of the character, teasing that "Little Fear of Lightning" will focus more on his history.
The promo shifts to another scene, wherein tension is building up between Looking Glass and Agent Laurie Blake (Jean Smart) as the latter refers to him as a mirror guy. Then, the clip shows him visiting an Extra-Dimensional Anxiety group, where he said there are other dimensions and they will not live in fear in the dimension where they live now.
The promo of Watchmen episode 5 also showed Looking Glass smashing something in his room and said they're all in a tunnel and every tunnel ends with light. So far, there are only a few details about the character's mysterious past -- aside from his real name Wade Tillman.
Sister Night (Regina King) described Looking Glass as a little "weird," in the recently aired episode of Watchmen. What makes him weird is that he actually lives in an underground bunker, doesn't take off his reflective mask, and seemed to be paranoid all the time.
But despite his weird attitude, Looking Glass is one of the most favorite characters of some viewers, since he has a unique way of interrogating people. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Nelson also talked about his character's history in the upcoming Watchmen episode 5.
He said series creator Damon Lindelof rewrote Looking Glass' origin story when filming has started. Nelson revealed Lindelof came up with a better story for the character, especially since Looking Glass was traumatized when the squid attack happened.
As for what else is coming in the next episode, the Smartest Man in the World will be plotting a daring escape. The episode will see Adrien Veidt (Jeremy Irons) finally trying to escape from his mysterious prison. The previous episode hinted he's likely imprisoned on another planet as his sky is seemingly different from the one on Earth.
Watchmen episode 5 will air on Sunday, Nov. 17, on HBO.
