The Alvarez family returns on One Day At A Time season 4 and the sitcom will have a new home network. Netflix initially canceled the show, but Pop TV saw its potential and picked it up earlier this year. The production for the fourth installment is now underway and the premiere month was recently revealed as well.

During the Vulture Festival, it was announced that One Day At A Time season 4 will premiere in March 2020. While the exact release date was not yet revealed, the news made loyal fans excited. Pop TV rescued the former Netflix comedy series in June and ordered 13 episodes for the upcoming season.

Following the premiere month announcement, series star Isabella Gomez also shared on her Instagram that the Alvarez family is coming back starting March 2020. Also, in October, series writer Mike Royce announced via Twitter the show is in progress, wherein he shared a photo of the writer's room.

Meanwhile, this marked the first time a cable network saved a canceled streaming program. However, unlike the preceding seasons, One Day At A Time season 4 will roll out every week since it is now airing on a cable channel. TVLine also reported the upcoming installment will air as repeats on CBS after its run on Pop TV.

In addition, Pop TV will get linear rights to the first three seasons of the sitcom to promote the fourth installment. Pop TV president Brad Schwartz previously said in a statement that they're happy to have the series in the network, especially since it deals with important themes.

One Day At A Time is one of the few shows with a Latin cast and Latin showrunner. The storyline also tackles relevant issues, including immigration, veteran PTSD, and LGBTQ rights. Its cancelation on Netflix was heartbreaking for many, but avid fans took to social media and praised the show with a hashtag #SaveODAAT.

The core cast members are all coming back on One Day At A Time season 4. That means we'll see Justina Machado back as Penelope, Rita Moreno as Lydia, Todd Grinnell as Pat, Isabella Gomez as Elena, Marcel Ruiz as Alejandro, and Stephen Tobolowsky as Dr. Berkowitz.

It remains to be seen whether or not One Day At A Time season 4 will see Lydia falling in love with Dr. Berkowitz. According to Tobolowsky, his barber told him that Jewish families who settled in Central America usually took the last name, Alvarez. That means the two might be relatives, though there are no confirmed details right now whether a backstory like that will be in the show.
