Chicago P.D. fall finale aired on, Wednesday night, Nov. 20, on NBC, with the title "Absolution." This episode comes with a shocking twist as one of the major characters faces a life-and-death situation. Jesse Lee Soffer's character, Jay Halstead, was put in a dangerous situation, and his fate in the series is up in the air for now.

Halstead was kidnapped while undercover with Marcus West's wife, Angela, in Chicago P.D. fall finale. Marcus is the man whom Halstead wrongfully accused and put behind bars, and then he was killed eventually. Since Halstead was kidnapped, Intelligence is on a mission to find him, with Upton eager to rescue her partner.

Upton takes out her anger on a suspect and warns him to pray that Halstead is still alive. Later on, Ruzek saw her being emotional in the break room and assured her they'd going to find her partner. The episode showed a bloody Halstead who was tied and beat up. Angela, on the other hand, said she's having nightmares about what happened to her husband.

Halstead eventually confessed to Angela that he's a cop and Marcus wasn't a murderer. She first found Halstead at her husband's grave and initially thought he's a decent man. But after his confession, she realized he's been lying to her face ever since they met. Halstead tried to explain the situation, and said he's following the evidence to make things right and help Angela and her son.

But for Angela, Halstead's act wasn't enough to cleanse his sins. She planned to reveal the real identity of Halstead to the bad guys, but he urged her to be smart since they'll both die if she says something. Angela listened to him, and Halstead was able to knock out the kidnappers. The Intelligence soon arrived, and Upton saw a badly injured Halstead.

While he's all bloody, it's a good thing the team arrived and able to save Halstead. It's time to rejoice for them, but no, as the shocking twist in Chicago P.D. fall finale came wherein Angela shoots Halsted after he goes back to check on her. The cliffhanger leaves many viewers in shock, questioning the fate of Jesse Lee Soffer's character in the series.

Soffer previously talked about the bloody Chicago P.D. fall finale. He told TV Guide that fans should be worried about Halstead because even if his character does survive, what happened to him will change him. He also added that Upton would start to sort her feelings out for Halstead, and it will be a wakeup call for her to realize that she cares for him.
