The only known public jailbreak release that seemed to work fine with iOS 13 is Checkra1n, which is claimed to be capable of unlocking iPhones and iPads run by the latest Apple mobile OS version. Now, the same tool is said to work too on the Apple TV 4.

According to Value Walk, Checkra1n can also be ported on the Apple set-top box set and give users greater access to best enjoy the device. However, a public version of the jailbreak is yet to be finalized, and there is no indication that developers will provide the same release anytime soon.

The initial release of Checkra1n came in the form of an untethered jailbreak that allowed users to use the tool on iDevices powered by iOS 13. It came with limitation but as noted by 9to5Mac, it is at least for public use.

In addition, Checkra1n is unpatchable, or the jailbreak cannot be undone by a software update because the exploit resides on the hardware of a jailbroken device.

While a Mac is required to reload the system modifications when the jailbroken device gets rebooted, the jailbreaking tool is impressive enough as developers touted that Checkra1n can potentially customize all iOS devices on the A-series chip. And the coverage extends up to the A11 Bionic mobile processor.

Unfortunately, that extra feature seemed to have been left out with the Apple TV version. The tvOS jailbreak is restricted to the fourth-generation hardware, according to iClarified. The implication is for Apple set-tops already unlocked with other jailbreak firmware, it's best not to install Checkra1n.

This is especially true for use on 4K Apple TV because the only way that the jailbreak is through the use of a specialized variant of cable that cannot be commercially obtained, the report added.

It's quite obvious that Checkra1n will require more work on the part of developers before the tool can be used and enjoyed at an optimal level. When or how this is happening, there is no information yet, but it was clear that once Checkra1n gets fully usable, there will be tons of benefits for users.

For one, the jailbreak will allow side-loading of applications on a permanent basis, and users can start using their preferred themes on the Apple TV 4. When jailbroken too, the device can be paired with PlayStation or Xbox controllers, which for many users, will be a huge deal.

All these, however, can only happen when the release hits the public channel, and sadly, there is no definite timeline for such a scenario right now.
