Former Arsenal coach Unai Emery was reportedly contacted by the Premier League club Everton, which offered him a managerial job, according to Sky Sports. The report claims that there was an informal meeting that took place between the Spanish professional football coach and some representatives of Everton last Sunday in London. While it is not yet clear if Emery said yes, the consensus is that he asked for more time to think the offer through.
Arsenal sacked Unai Emery on Nov. 25, and following his farewell statement, nothing was heard of from the Spanish coach. Emery is reportedly keen to continue to improve his English as he considers England, as well as Italy and Spain, as potential destinations before giving his nod with a new club, claims Sky Sports. Following his exile from the Emirates, the Gunners appointed Freddie Ljungberg and the club's interim manager, but rumors have it that the club is still looking for a new manager.
Meanwhile, Everton is also hunting for a new boss after sacking Marco Silva last week. The Portuguese coach has been with Everton for 18 months and left Everton on the relegation zone of the Premier League, says Bleacher Report. Unai Emery, on the other hand, left Arsenal after a seven-game run on all competitions without any wins, which is the worst in Arsenal's history, adds the report.
The Spanish coach was unable to get the Gunners back into the UEFA Champions League after they ended up on the fifth-place last season. However, Unai Emery made seven points of improvement from Arsene Wenger's reign. Off-field issues coupled with a poor start to 2019-2020 season, as well as the stripping of Granit Xhaka's captaincy, are some of the factors that made Emery's post untenable.
But, aside from his final days at the Emirates, Unai Emery has a very impressive CV. He could be a good fit for a club of Everton's caliber. Between 2016 and 2018, Unai Emery led Paris Saint Germain to win Ligue 1 title and six other domestic titles. The most impressive are his three successive UEFA Europa League wind with Sevilla between 2014 and 2016.
At present, Everton is considering Vito Pereira of the Chinese Super League (CSL) club Shanghai SIPG, which is reportedly on top of the list of its possible replacements, according to a report. Several sites claim that Napoli coach Carlo Ancelloti is also being eyed by Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri and Chairman Bill Kenwright as an alternative to Pereira.
