Samsung was one of the first smartphone makers to introduce a foldable handset commercially available in the market. The Samsung Galaxy Fold had a tough start, but the Seoul tech and electronics giant was able to pull through and eventually released the product to the public. A new report claims that Samsung is currently preparing for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, which will reportedly arrive sporting an ultra thin glass (UTG) display.
Earlier, several sites reported that Samsung inked a deal with another South Korean firm to supply for Samsung's UTG displays. It was earlier speculated that the Seoul tech juggernaut would drop the bendable polymide display that it used in the Galaxy Fold model. The report seems to confirm this rumor as supported by the trademark filed by the company for the name Ultra Thin Glass.
Samsung might have come up with this kind of solution following the incidents that happened with the Galaxy Fold, where its display panel was accidentally removed by users. The result was a damaged screen that prevented the company from releasing the device within its release window. Samsung might have found a better alternative to its previous display material in the UTG display.
The Ultra Thin Display that will be in Samsung galaxy Fold 2 is reportedly extremely thin. A report claims that it is thinner than 30 microns. GizmoChina reports that the UTG is so thin that its width is similar to that of human hair. The revolutionary display also makes the foldable smartphone essentially resistant to scratch.

But, the downside of the Ultra Thin Glass display is that it is difficult to produce and is more costly than the previous kind of display used in Samsung Galaxy Fold. Several reports claim that the Seoul tech titan is planning to ramp up the production of the second generation of foldable smartphone this year. The company is reportedly eyeing to produce between 5 and 6 million units with Doowoo Insys providing the company with UTG display.
