Prince William and Kate Middleton are going to grace the Christmas special episode of Mary Berry, the cook and celebrity judge of The Great British Bake Off. The episode, titled "A Berry Royal Christmas," will air on BBC on Dec. 16 and will feature the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge whipping up a special treat for a group of volunteers who work for the royal charities.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Daily Express that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's TV appearance seems like a low-risk approach. The Berry TV special could work in their favor, especially at a time when royals doing interviews on TV have created quite a public uproar.

In October, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did an interview with ITV to express that they are struggling with media scrutiny and bad publicity. In November, Prince Andrew granted BBC with an interview to explain his ties to the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and to defend himself from the sex scandal accusations.

Both interviews were met with a public backlash that made royal TV appearances such a tricky deal. Fitzwilliams said, however, that Prince William and Kate's guest stint on Berry's show should be a delight to watch more so because the British are generally fond of celebrity chefs, cooking shows and food.

According to The Sun, Prince William and Kate have filmed the TV episode where they baked a Christmas meringue roulade. They faced off with The Great British Bake Off star Nadiya Hussain.

Prince William also filmed his visit to a special charity with Berry. They went to The Passage, which Prince William has known since he was child. At 11 years old, Prince William visited The Passage with his mother, Princess Diana. Kate, on the other hand, toured Berry to the RHS Wisley garden, which she designed for the Chelsea Flower Show.

Kate and Berry met at a charity over six years ago and have forged a mutual admiration for each other, according to Today. Berry said that Prince William and Kate use her recipes as well. The Cambridge royals are quite hands-in in the kitchen.

The Duchess of Cambridge is actually quite a good cook even if Prince William often jokes that he is skinny because of his wife's cooking, according to the 84-year-old expert. Berry also shared that Prince William and Kate were really competitive when they prepared the roulade. They each had to do a piece and kept looking at what the other one was doing during the bake off.
