Juventus talisman Cristiano Ronaldo refused to take the captain's armband from Leonardo Bonucci and gave it instead to Blaise Matuidi as a sign of respect. The simple act of humility and respect took place as Juve swept a comfortable win at the Allianz Stadium to match level points of Serie A league leader Inter Milan. Juventus skipper Leonardo Banucci was replaced in the 76th minute by Matthijs De Ligt and attempted to give his armband to the 34 years old football superstar.
But, as a way of showing respect to Blaise Matuidi, who has been with Juventus for a long time, longer than he has, Cristiano Ronaldo turned down the chance to skipper the club and instead offered the armband to the French footballer. Ronaldo joined Juve in the summer of 2018 while Matuidi inked a deal with the club a year earlier. The Ballon d'Or winner was in a jovial form as the Bianconeri speed its way to victory.
This happened yesterday in Juventus' game. Higuain was wearing the captain armband, got subbed off and passed it to Cristiano Ronaldo who refused to wear it and gave it to Matuidi because he's the longest serving player on the pitch. Cristiano Ronaldo displayed pure class, as shown in the video below. The stadium was cheering the football superstar's gesture, and some are clapping as CR7 displayed respect and humility to his teammates. He never thought about himself or his role in the game's victory but unselfishly did the gesture earning the admiration and respect not only of his teammates but all those who have appreciated his gesture.
Cristiano Ronaldo has now scored 220 club goals since turning 30. That's more than Mo Salah, Harry Kane and Antoine Griezmann have in their entire careers! pic.twitter.com/Z3RLoPcoxO — TeamCRonaldo (@TeamCRonaldo) December 15, 2019
Even though the football superstar has a slow start in the Serie A season, Ronaldo seems to have found his stride and is back in scoring goals for the Old Lady. Ronaldo was the only player in the top five European League to achieve double figures for 15 consecutive seasons. During the match, Juve took the lead when the deflected shot of Paulo Dybala fell into the track of Ronaldo who fired in a low finish from the corner of the box.

The football superstar made the second goal on the 37th minute after he latched onto the throw ball of Gonzalo Higuain and hit a shot into the bottom corner. Leonardo Banucci contributed another goal before the half-time prior to the consolation goal of Ignacio Pussetto for the away club in the second half.
