OnePlus has announced its plan to reveal the OnePlus Concept One, which the device maker said will embody "an alternate vision for the future of smartphones." The China-based company will debut the handset via the CES 2020 that is scheduled to kick off on January 7 in Las Vegas.
The introduction will coincide with the 6th founding anniversary of OnePlus, and the company said what to be seen will represent "our commitment to doing things differently and pushing boundaries is stronger than ever.
How the device will look like and what to expect from the unveiling are the questions left unanswered by the OnePlus tease, WCCFTech said in a report. In other words, the company has opted to keep everyone hanging as no clues were given on the design, specs, and features that will come with the Concept One intro.
The only hint allowed by the company is the tagline "Alternative Design, Alternative," which indicated that the device set for revelation would be a departure from the existing OnePlus handset model.
Per the same report, it seemed unlikely that Concept One will be a foldable phone as OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has earlier disapproved of the build. Lau said foldable phones are costly to manufacture and will not deliver extra value to users.
If anything, the upcoming Concept One will surely adhere to Lau's commitment to building products that will greatly contribute to users' overall experience.
One possibility suggested by Android Authority is a foldable device but with dual-display, which the report said agrees to OnePlus' philosophy of optimal usability with a touch of premium aesthetics. But the chance of this happening is slim, set at 20% given that Lau is not that enamored with the design language.
Another suggestion is an under-display selfie camera that will pave the way for a near-perfect Full Display on a smartphone. This happening is set at 80% as slim display bezels have been pushing the limit year after year.
Concept One could also be a device with full wireless connectivity and devoid of physical buttons. In releasing this handset, OnePlus will preempt the rumored iPhone model that is believed lined up for commercial release in 2020. Something like this could happen, and the chance is pegged by the same report at 99%.
Or OnePlus will simply unbox an ultra-flagship model that will serve as the follow up to the OnePlus 7T. Ultra means the device will boast of specifications in superlative levels. Most likely, this device will offer a sneak peek of the things to expect from the OnePlus 8, the report said.
