Most tech enthusiasts anticipate that smartphone names will simply follow a numerical sequence so, whenever a company changes the pattern, many notices. This happened when Apple skipped the number 9 numerical sequence and jumped to iPhone X to mark the 10th birthday of the popular iPhone line. The Galaxy S series of the Seoul-based tech and electronics giant is not older, but a new report claims that it will skip the 11 number sequence in next year and will call its next iteration Samsung Galaxy S20 instead of the widely presumed Galaxy S11 name.

The latest report comes from tech and gadget sleuth Ice Universe, who shares the latest details on the social networking site Twitter. The Samsung Galaxy S11 might be called Samsung Galaxy S20 to mark the beginning of a new decade or era in 2020, according to the popular tipster. The claim could mean that Samsung will make a massive leap to its number sequence.

Usually, in the tech world, particularly in the smartphone industry, a sudden break suggests there might be big changes ahead in marketing the product at least and not all the time in terms of technology. But, earlier leaks for Samsung Galaxy S11 or, in this case, Samsung Galaxy S20 do not reveal revolutionary tech or upgrades to warrant such a leap in naming. While upgraded cameras and processors make the headlines, other premium phones also offer the same.

The Samsung Galaxy S20, based on earlier reports, will feature the most recent Soc from Qualcomm, which is the Snapdragon 865 and its equivalent in Exynos. In terms of camera, Samsung may feature a new macro lens to the current generation camera configuration. The design of the Samsung Galaxy S20 may feature a change considering reports reveal that it mixes the middle ounch0hole front camera design of the Galaxy S10 with a new rectangular camera housing at the back.

The change in the name of the upcoming Samsung flagship smartphone also raises several questions about the Samsung Galaxy S series and its future. Will the Galaxy S series arriving in 2020 be called Samsung Galaxy S21? Or will it follow what Huawei is doing and call it Samsung Galaxy S30?

This is not the first time that we have heard that Samsung Galaxy S11 moniker will be dropped. In September of this year, a rumor surfaced that the Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy Note series will be combined into Samsung Galaxy One series. We will know what's the real name of the next Samsung Galaxy S iteration in February 2020 when the flagship smartphone finally arrives.
