Melania Trump once said that she's more than a beautiful face after a journalist ogled at her beauty during the 2016 presidential campaign. In response to this journalist, the First Lady apparently said that she's a smart and intelligent woman who has the brains aside from beauty.

This statement from the FLOTUS recently resurfaced on social media. Needless to say, Melania received some flak for what she said to defend herself.

One user on Twitter posted that Melania's words may only mean that she's insecure because she needed to announce that she's a smart woman. Many netizens also said that if someone goes around telling people how smart they are, they are usually not.

Another user said that if you have to tell people you are intelligent, there should be a reason why they aren't seeing it. Many were in agreement that people who have brains do not proclaim they are intelligent.

This is not the first time Melania's intelligence has been questioned and ridiculed online. The FLOTUS was accused of plagiarism former First Lady Michelle Obama on more than one occasion. She also hardly shares her thoughts about important issues in the government, except when it affects her son, Barron. Thus, for some people, it's not easy to really qualify the intelligence of the President's wife.

Critics of the Trumps have long been questioning the First Lady's intelligence after it emerged that she got a green card through the Einstein program. This is usually given to people with "extraordinary ability" such as scientists, engineers, sportsmen who've won medals at international competitions, Oscar-winning actors, and businessmen with great acumen for their industry.

Melania's work prior to becoming Mrs. Trump is as a runway and print model. She also had several photos in string bikinis and in the nude but she was not considered a supermodel. It was also unclear if she worked in a competitive modeling industry like New York.

But in 2001, Melania was apparently granted a green card by the U.S. government after passing the EB-1 program. She was one of five people from Slovenia to ever received such a green card.

Her lawyer, Michael Wildes, said that the FLOTUS was "more than amply qualified and solidly eligible" to for the EB-1 green card but refused to discuss what the qualifications were given for her. Wildes said that it's a matter of privacy, given that the FLOTUS is such a private person.
