Melania Trump had a very simple answer when the press asked what was her New Year's resolution. She told them with a smile that she wants "peace in the world," but her statement was slammed by critics on the internet.
The video of that short interview with the First Lady and President Donald Trump immediately became viral. It showed Melania's straightforward reply to the question: What is your New Year's resolution?
President Trump, on the other hand, somehow agreed with his wife about peace in the world, but he said that he would not like to share his resolution out loud as doing so might jinx it. The president then went on to say that America is in a great place than it has ever been because of what he has done and what he has yet to do.
On Twitter, critics didn't waste time calling out the First Lady for acting like she was in a beauty pageant. Another said that world peace is such as standard Miss America answer and that Melania's reply felt faked and rehearsed.
Others slammed the president for thinking that a resolution is like a birthday wish, which shouldn't be shared out loud. Many said that New Year's resolution must be shared to make the person more committed to fulfilling it.
Celebrity Chrissy Teigen, however, was more bothered by Melania acting like robot who has gone haywire on New Year's Day. She reposted the video of the Trumps' interview about their New Year's resolutions.
Melania, however, might not be affected by all the criticisms. Speaking before a forum in Florida, the First Lady said that she will always remain "true to herself" and truthful to the American people despite what people say.
Meanwhile, Melania was recently accused of plagiarizing, yet again, from former First Lady Michelle Obama. The FLOTUS' "Be Best" campaign, which she launched in 2019 about bullying, is inspired by Obama's "Be Better" statement during a guest appearance on Oprah Winfrey's show.
Twitter could not help but say that Melania is better at plagiarism. In 2016, the First Lady was also accused of plagiarizing Obama's 2008 speech. The president's men, however, denied the allegations as it was a team of writers, and not Melania, who wrote the speech. President Trump, on the other hand, supported his wife and was even proud that she went up on stage to talk to the audience.
