The Seoul-based tech and electronics giant sent our invitations for its 'Unpacked' event on Feb. 11, where it will unveil the new Samsung Galaxy S20 series. Earlier rumors suggested that the upcoming flagship smartphone series from Samsung will feature better cameras that will beat that of the iPhone 11 series. The iPhone 11 Pro beat some Samsung smartphones in the recent DxOMark camera ranking, but given the reports about the upcoming flagship smartphone of Samsung, it seems that Apple's reign in the ranking might be short-lived.
More popularly dubbed as Galaxy S11 series, the Samsung Galaxy S20 series would be the first smartphone to feature 8K video recording according to various sources. As for its camera configuration, the Galaxy S20 will feature 108-megapixel primary camera, an ultrawide-angle camera, a telephoto lens or periscope lens with five times zoom and at least 48 megapixels. Its bigger sibling, the Galaxy S20 Plus, will have the same camera configuration plus a time of flight sensor, according to tech and gadgets sleuth Ice Universe.
Three models will be released under the Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup, according to reports. It includes the standard Galaxy S20 (SM-980), the larger Galaxy S20 Plus (SM-985), and the Galaxy S20 Ultra model (SM-988). The standard S20 will feature a 6.2-inch display, the S20 Plus will feature a 6.7-inch display, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra will sport a 6.9-inch display.
Resolutions of the three Galaxy S20 variants will be a Quad HD or approximately 3,040 x 1,440, but Samsung might bump this area, including its brightness. All three models will have a 120 Hz refresh rate according to Ice Universe. In daily application, the 120 Hz refresh rate will provide smoother font scrolling on websites. Benefits to display clarity and accuracy will also be remarkable, especially during mobile gaming.
The Cupertino would not be too worried about the Galaxy S20 eating the sales of the iPhone 11. However, it might be a little concerned that the flagship devices will overtake the iPhone 11 Pro in the camera rankings of DxOMark. The iPhone 11 Pro max is in the fourth spot lagging behind smartphones from Huawei and Xiaomi with the Galaxy S10 on its tail at the fifth spot.
Apple has made sure that its current-generation flagship smartphone will standout after falling behind Samsung and Google in recent years. We will know for sure which camera is better when Samsung finally unveils the Galaxy S20 series on Feb.11 at its 'Unpacked' event. Meanwhile, these details, while interesting, are not official, and we recommend not to get too excited about it since these details do not come from Samsung but based on leaks, speculations, and renders.
