Any NBA player would be fulfilled having an NBA title to his basketball resume. Some players have won it more than once, 13 to be exact. Among them is Kobe Bryant, formerly of the Los Angeles Lakers. But it appears the 41-year-old is not entirely happy.
In an interview with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson on "All The Smoke", the 18-time NBA All-Star revealed one thing he was unable to do during his NBA career. He came up short in matching the NBA rings that Michael Jordan had. Jordan owns 8 NBA titles while Bryant has six.
"It pissed me off. But, things are what they are. You push for a goal, and my original goal was to try to win 8. You push for it. Push for it. Push for it, and you do the best you can," said Bryant during the interview.
He would, later on, add that despite that shortcoming, he is pretty much content on what he has accomplished. For him, knowing that he worked hard and gave it everything is something he can live comfortably with. Aside from him and Jordan, other players who have won more NBA titles include Bill Russell and John Havlicek, TMZ Sports reported.
In the same interview, the Black Mamba also bared that he stopped watching the NBA when he retired from active duty. However, he is back to watching NBA games because of his daughter Gigi. Only 13-years-old, Gigi seems to be well on his way of following his dad's footsteps. In fact, she seems to have inherited Kobe's patented fadeaway jump shot, as shown in some games.
"So before Gigi got into basketball I hardly watched it, but now that's she's into basketball, we watch every night," said Bryant in a report by CBS Sports.
Bryant also revealed the active NBA players that her daughter was following. The list included LeBron James, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Trae Young, and Luka Doncic.
Moving forward, it will be interesting as to how far Kobe's daughter will go into the world of basketball. Seeing, however, that Bryant himself is coaching her, it would not come as a surprise if the 13-year-old aspires to be a professional basketball player as well.
For now, Kobe is supporting Gigi and seems to be having a good time doing so. Equalling what his father did is a tough task. But if Gigi employs the same hard work ethic, her father, anything is possible.
