Donald Trump weighed in on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's decision to step back from being senior royals. The President of the United States expressed his sadness over the Sussexes' royal exit and sympathized to Queen Elizabeth II, saying she didn't deserve it.
In an interview with Laura Ingraham on The Ingraham Angle, Melania Trump's husband talked about his thoughts about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's announcement that shocked the whole world. "I think it's sad. I do. I think it's sad," he said, via Express.
Donald Trump then commended Queen Elizabeth, praising her for being a great woman. He went on to say that Her Majesty never made a mistake in leading the monarchy and even had a perfect time doing her work.
As he said that he as high respect for the Queen, Donald Trump added that he doesn't "think this should be happening to her." The former television personality is a known supporter of the British's longest-reigning monarch.
He has nothing but high praises for Queen Elizabeth, and he has been openly talking about it on several occasions. Donald Trump also called her a "tremendous woman," and speaking fondly about her in different meetings.
However, it is quite the opposite of his point of view of Meghan Markle. He once called her "nasty" for calling him "divisive" in her appearance on Comedy Central's The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore during the 2016 presidential election.
Donald Trump told The Sun in 2019 that he had no idea that the Prince Harry's wife said that about him and added that she didn't know she was nasty. Later, he clarified his statement and explained that she was not calling her nasty, but the thing she said about him.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry surprised the world when they announced their decision to step back from their royal duties. They also expressed their desire to be financially independent but promised to continue their support to Queen Elizabeth and the Commonwealth.
They planned to split their time between the United Kingdom and North America, which believed to be mainly in Canada. They also liked to remain as royals and keep their Frogmore Cottage to have a home to stay whenever they are in Britain.
However, although Meghan Markle and Prince Harry seemed to imply their announcement as a done deal, the Palace seemed surprise with their statement, per Daily Mail. Hence, a spokesman released a report from the Palace, saying that discussions with the Sussexes are still at an early stage, and it will take time to work through.
