Sony was a no-show at the E3 2019, and the Japanese company might just do the same for the current year's edition. Gamers have been anticipating that further teasers on the upcoming PlayStation 5 will be shared in June, but it looks like Sony has no plans of attending the gathering, meaning there will be no PS5 update to come.

In contrast, Microsoft has already confirmed that a team will be at the trade show and will surely drum up further interest on the already announced Xbox Series X. The company seems very much aware that its rival will skip the event, and it sees an opportunity to take advantage of the situation.

In Sony's absence, Microsoft will do its best to gain as much media mileage as possible, and that appears to be the plan by the Xbox maker, WCCFTech reported.

Sony's non-attendance on this year's E3 edition was somehow confirmed by Video Games Chronicle, which the report said is a reliable source of news that matters most to the gaming industry. By this time, the company should have sent confirmation that it plans to make a return following the snub last year, but there is no sign it will be the case.

It seems Sony remains silent on its E3 plans for the year, if any, and as far as VGC is concerned, a return by the company is not in the cards at the moment.

An analyst added his voice to the growing perception that anything about the PS5 will be MIA at the E3 2020 unless the firm makes a last-minute arrangement.

"As far as I know, they don't plan to attend ... I hope they change their minds, but I am skeptical," Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter was reported as saying.

However, Sony not showing up at the event is not entirely a loss for the company, and the same goes for its push of the PS5. The gaming console was recently teased on Instagram and judging the reaction to that promo move, Sony appears convinced that running an ad campaign on the PS5 will not require attendance in E3 2020, according to PlayStation Lifestyle.

Furthermore, it might be that the game plan for the PS5 is to be formally introduced with Sony staging its own event where the spotlight is exclusively directed at the gaming device, and it certainly makes sense. Recall that when the PS4 was launched in 2013, Sony veered away from the E3 platform and pushed the device as the company saw fit.

In any case, the gaming world is anticipating a grand unveiling of the PlayStation 5 in the middle of 2020 or a few months before the product's commercial debut, which Sony said will happen during the holiday season of the year. That's saying the PS5 release date is between November and December 2020.
