Meghan Markle is not going to get the same honor Kate Middleton got from Queen Elizabeth. In 2018, Her Majesty gave Prince William's wife the title Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order as her eighth wedding anniversary gift, but a royal expert said Prince Harry's wife wouldn't get the same honor due to one problem.

According to royal expert Janice Williams, Kate had eight years as a royal family member before she received such an honor from Queen Elizabeth. Essentially, this gift meant that she is now the same league as Prince Charles' wife, Camilla, and brothers, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

Meghan, on the other hand, is likely going to have to wait many more years or she could never get the honor. But it's not because of the number of years she was married to Prince Harry but because the Duchess of Sussex is not yet a citizen of the United Kingdom.

Though she married into the royal family and is the mother to the seventh in line to the throne, Meghan needs to be a U.K. citizen to get high honors from the Queen, as per the rules. At best, Meghan could be given an honorary title, but this will still be at the Queen's discretion.

However, since Prince Harry and Meghan announced that they would like to split their time between the U.K. and North America moving forward, then the duchess' citizenship could be further delayed. Meghan spent just three days in London upon their return to Canada after the holidays. She's now back in the Commonwealth country for an indefinite period since the couple's baby, Archie Harrison, has been staying with Meghan's friends in Canada.

Meanwhile, Oprah Winfrey has been dragged into the royal drama after reports surfaced that she helped Prince Harry and Meghan decide to step back from being senior royals. The media mogul encouraged the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to build their brand and move to the United States.

Winfrey, however, denied the report and stated that Prince Harry and Meghan do not need her help to figure out what's best for their family. According to People, the Sussex couple also sought the advice of George and Amal Clooney, and former President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama in charting their next steps for the Sussex brand.
