Sony's PlayStation 5 is arriving before 2020 ends, but so far, the company has not yet officially unveiled the next generation gaming console. With Sony's announcement of a huge event starting this year, fans are speculating that this could be the event where the Japanese console maker would finally reveal the PS5. But will it really?

A mysteriously worded event is arriving at Sony's Square showroom in New York. Sony's "Experience PlayStation" event commences on Jan. 14 and will run until Feb. 16, 2020. According to the listing on the company's website, the event opens between 12 PM and 7 PM EST every day.

Additionally, the event wants New Yorkers and visitors to come and celebrate 25 Years of Play with a long list of PS4 and PSVR titles. Sony periodically uses its showroom in New York to hold demos and events like this. It Sept. last year, the showroom was occupied for a weekend by NHL 20 demos.

But, when it comes to details about the announcement, it appears that, so far, nothing explicitly links the Experience PlayStation event with the PlayStation 5 reveal. Over the past months, leaks and rumors claimed that the official unveiling of the PlayStation 5 might happen on Feb. 2020. A more precise rumor points Feb. 12, 2020, as the date of the official unveiling.

The rumored date would be the final week of the PlayStation event. It could perhaps unveil the PlayStation 5 as the event's finale. But, of course, this is just wishful thinking at this point. While it does not confirm anything, it tilts to how the Japanese console maker unveiled its gaming consoles for the past years.

It is worth mentioning that Sony announced the PlayStation 4 on a Wednesday on Feb. 2013. Meanwhile, the mid-gen upgrade PlayStation 4 Pro was announced at an event held in New York City in 2016. If these announcements are to go by, there is a pattern that points to the likelihood of a PlayStation 5 unveiling in New York next month.

Recently, Sony confirmed that it would not be at this year's E3, which shows its growing dependence on its own events. It is another strong indication of the possibility of the PS5 official reveal in New York next month. But we suggest not to get your hopes up as nothing is official as of yet.

Sony Interactive Entertainment already confirmed the arrival of the PlayStation 5 sometime in the holiday of this year. Expect more exciting news about Sony's next-generation gaming console between now and the console's release window.
