News emerged that Kate Middleton had to represent the monarchy now that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their plan to step down from their royal duties. However, despite the importance of her future role, the Duchess of Cambridge was nowhere to be seen at the royal summit held at the Sandringham on Monday, Jan. 13.
Prince William's wife and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, weren't at the historic royal family summit, per Express. Queen Elizabeth II called for a crisis talk to discuss the future of the Sussexes after they announced their resignation on Instagram.
The historic event was only attended by Her Majesty herself, along with Prince Charles, Prince William, and the man of the hour, Prince Harry. The "constructive" discussion, reportedly, took two and a half hours.
Evidently, the attendees were only the heads of each family, who were born into the circle of the royal family, excluding the ones they were married with. So, despite the importance of Kate Middleton and Camilla's roles in the monarchy, they were not invited to the meeting. By the looks of it, the summit was an exclusive family event attended by the Queen and her heirs.
Anyhow, Kate Middleton, reportedly, has to "step up to the plate" now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will split their time between the United Kingdom and North America, specifically Canada. Royal author Leslie Carroll told Fox News that the future queen consort might take on more royal duties now that the Sussexes resigned.
With the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's surprising announcement, Queen Elizabeth may expect a lot from Prince William's wife. She may have more presence in the U.K. and often appear in different royal engagements, becoming the face and patron of more charities and organizations.
As Meghan Markle will no longer be in the U.K. to do her supposed royal duties full time, Kate Middleton has to take her responsibilities. Also, as her husband, Prince William, is the second in line to the throne, Carroll believes Kate may become the face of the monarchy as it continues to evolve.
Carroll explained that Kate Middleton would have to represent the face of Britain's future on a more regular basis now that Prince Harry and Megan Markle step down from their royal posts. However, she has to do this while balancing her time between the busy schedule of doing her royal duties and being a hands-on mom to her three young children -- Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
