Prince William and Kate Middleton are going to visit Ireland this coming spring. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are scheduled to have a two-day visit to Dublin and Cork. Some palace officials are hopeful that this royal engagement will be given more focus than Prince Harry and Meghan's move to Canada, which will also be happening in the spring.
According to the Irish Post, the trip is still in its early stages of planning but Prince William is said to be looking forward to this Ireland visit. On St. Patrick's Day last year, the Duke of Cambridge apparently loved the pint of Guinness he shared with the First Battalion of the Irish Guards at a London royal engagement.
Prince William and Kate, reportedly, want to go to Cork because Queen Elizabeth visited its English Market during her 2011 trip. That was a historical event as it was nearly a century since Cork received a member of the British royal family.
In 2016, Prince William and Kate went to Northern Ireland, particularly Belfast, to visit the Roscor Youth Village, the Empire Music Hall and Windsor Park. Ireland, however, most recently received Prince Harry and Meghan during their very first royal trip outside of England as a royal couple in 2019. ,
Palace officials said that Prince William and Kate's Ireland visit could be the "perfect distraction" as Prince Harry and Meghan are also set to fly out to Canada around this time. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are starting their life anew as private citizens.
After a week of arrangements and months of discussions, Queen Elizabeth confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan will no longer be working members of the royal family. Though they have earlier expressed to step back on their duties while remaining in support of the Queen, Her Majesty decided that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be asked to represent her in future royal engagements.
The Sussex couple plan to stay in North America to raise their son Archie Harrison away from the media's prying eyes. The Queen also allowed Prince Harry and Meghan to be released from the Sovereign Grant and pay for the renovation of Frogmore Cottage.
The terms of this agreement may be reviewed in a year. Meanwhile, the Sussex couple have been away from each other for nearly two weeks since they announced their intention to step back from royal life.
