The sad plight of Delonte West continues although new information has emerged. Recently, video footage of West in handcuffs and getting beat up emerged on social media. And while most wondered why the brutal beating went down, authorities have shed more light on the matter.

In a report from TMZ Sports, it turns out that West hit an unnamed man with a glass bottle as the two were having a dispute. The former NBA player and the man knew each other with one of the men bleeding from the face when the police arrived. Both men refused medical assistance and did not press charges.

"[The witness] told officers that she observed the handcuffed male [West] first hit the other with a glass bottle and that man responded by striking the one who had thrown the bottle several times," said the police.

Related to that, the police officer suspected of releasing the video has been penalized according to Prince George's County PD Chief Hank Stawinski. Investigations are ongoing and Stawinski said that the officer, whose identity was not revealed, will be dealt with accordingly if found guilty of posting the footage on social media.

Initially, some casted doubts on whether it was indeed West on the video. All this was confirmed by the player's former agent Aaron Goodwin. According to him, the 36-year-old star who initially played for the Boston Celtics was recovering from an attack with family members. He also added that the former 24th pick of the 2004 NBA Draft was in dire need of medical attention.

The agent also mentioned how West has a support system around him. However, family and friends need more help to keep the former NBA guard safe and out of trouble. The NBA is offering to support West who is suffering from a bipolar disorder. This was revealed by his brother, Dmitri West, in a previous report by the Daily Mail.

“I don't know what exactly is going on in his mind but I can tell you that he is safe and he's doing OK. My family are trying to get him the best professional help that's out there, the best that they can afford,” said Dmitri West.

Other than the NBA, West's former coach is trying to extend a helping hand to his former player. Phil Martelli used to handle West and Jameer Nelson at Saint Joseph's University. The 65-year-old coach responded to a shared post by Nelson seeking help for his former backcourt partner.
