Prince Charles is set to inherit the throne of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, but a new poll reveals people want Prince William to have the seat instead. As the public craves to have a new and more modern monarchy, they want the Duke of Cambridge to leapfrog his father.

Kate Middleton's husband continuously gets huge support from the people who want him to take the throne instead of the Duke of Wales. In the poll Savanta ComRes for the Daily Express, it revealed 45 percent of the participants want the succession to skip a generation when Her Majesty dies. Twenty percent want the succession to follow suit, while the remainder is still undecided.

With Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's decision to step back from their royal duties and be financially independent, it only strengthens the demand for radical change. Half of the men in the survey agree that the monarchy should be reduced in size, while 50 percent of women want the throne to be passed to Prince William instead of Prince Charles.

About half of young adults like Prince William to be the next monarch. However, despite the huge support the second in line to the throne is getting, it is improbable that the real successor of the throne will let his son have his seat.

Although Prince Charles is the least favorite royal and not the most famous member of the royal family at all, he is the longest-serving heir apparent in British history. He is the first in line to the throne when his grandfather, George VI, died in 1952.

Even if Queen Elizabeth wants to change her successor, she simply can't do so because it is against the law. The 1701 Act of Settlement requires the Queen's heir to be the direct successor and a Protestant, which both fits Prince Charles, per Reader's Digest. The Parliament has passed this law, and Her Royal Highness has no power over federal laws -- unless the legislative body wants to change it.

Aside from being first in the line of succession, Prince Charles is also the most qualified to become the next king. He has been in training to take the throne all his life. In fact, he and his sister, Prince Anne, have the most attended royal engagements than anyone else in the royal family.

Despite the negative news surrounding him, from his being unfaithful to his divorce from Princess Diana to marrying Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, it will never work against his succession. On the other hand, Prince William never said that he wants to take the throne from his dad.
