The mother of Meghan Markle, Doria Ragland, was, apparently, one of the driving forces who influenced the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to seek financial independence from the royal family. According to reports, Prince Harry has turned to his mother-in-law for advice many times before they finally decided about stepping back in the royal family.

A source close to the Sussex royals apparently told Daily Mail that Doria has been the "silent but steely" figure behind Prince Harry and Meghan. The source even compared Meghan's mom to Queen Elizabeth, in that she is the type to never complain and never explain. Thus, Prince Harry was reportedly drawn to Doria for her discretion.

The reports also stated that Doria has been on the phone with the Sussex pair constantly since this whole dilemma with their royal roles erupted. The friend noted that when Prince Harry and Meghan talked about becoming financially independent, it had Doria's mindset all over the decision.

According to OK! Magazine, Prince Harry has grown "incredibly close" to Doria and considers her as their "tower of strength." The Duke of Sussex has huge respect for his mother-in-law's judgements. She knew of their plans intimately as they have reportedly been discussing these with her regularly.

The 63-year-old grandmother apparently went with the Sussex couple for their six-week holiday in Canada last Christmas. Doria is now back in Los Angeles, where she works as a yoga instructor.

Amid the controversy surrounding their royal exit, sources claimed that Doria is not worried over Prince Harry and Meghan. People reported that the single mom believes her daughter and son-in-law "will always be OK."

Meanwhile, sources from inside the palace say that the senior royals are preparing for Prince Harry and Meghan's potential return to the U.K. after Queen Elizabeth gave them permission to live in Canada. Apparently, the royals fear that the Sussex pair are in a "fragile" state and might plan on returning home.

As such, contingency plans are being prepared should the Sussex couple decide to move back in. Prince Charles and Prince William are reportedly trying to feel out Prince Harry to rebuild their relationship.

The Sussex royals were apparently told that they can return to London and enjoy the protection of the royal family, while still be free of their royal duties. The news comes amid reports that paparazzi have been hounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in Canada.
