Prince William won more votes as the favored next monarch of England over his father Prince Charles. In a poll conducted by a news daily, the Duke of Cambridge received an overwhelming 45 percent of the votes to be the next King.

The poll from Daily Express were sampled from over 13,000 adults online from Jan. 22 to 23. While Prince William led the numbers, a fifth of the respondents, or about 20 percent, still believe that Prince Charles should be the next King.

The poll also revealed that public would apparently like Prince Charles to step aside as he is "too political." The respondents said that the Prince of Wales likes to interfere in politics while Prince William is the perfect representation of the Crown as a classy, loving, hard-working and respectable family man.

However, Queen Elizabeth's former press secretary Dickie Arbiter said that calls for Prince Charles to step aside and let Prince William sit on the throne may set a dangerous precedent. If this happens then Prince William might also be asked one day to do the same when he's 60 or 70 and Prince George is primed to take the throne.

Arbiter said that Prince William's turn will come in due time. As it is, Prince Charles will rightfully succeed his mother the Queen. The royal expert believes that the monarchy will still be in safe hands under the Prince of Wales.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth recently appointed Prince William a new role and royal title. The Duke of Cambridge is now the new Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

Per the press release, this new distinction makes Prince William the personal representative of the Queen to the Annual General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. He is expected to deliver the opening and closing address during the assembly and will carry out official functions of the church as its Lord High Commissioner.

The title has been bestowed since the 16th century. The Duke of Cambridge will take over the post from Richard Scott, the 10th Duke of Buccleuch and 12th Duke of Queensberry. However, the Queen usually reappoints the position very year, per CNN.

Prince William's new role comes as his brother, Prince Harry, has been stripped off his military affiliations following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's desire to live a more private life. Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are now based in Canada and will no longer represent the Queen at official functions.
