On Jan. 23, 2020, China locked down Wuhan to prevent the spread of coronavirus. At the time of publishing, the death toll continues to increase, which only means it is far from being contained. According to a new report, the production of the upcoming iPhone SE 2 could be affected by the recent development of the coronavirus outbreak in China.

Coronavirus and iPhone Production

Apple virtually manufactures its iPhones in China, considering that its major manufacturers are based in the Asian country. Two of its major iPhone manufacturing facilities (Pegatron and Foxconn) are located 500 kilometers away from Wuhan, which is where the virus originated. If China would not be able to resolve the issue as soon as possible, it could negatively affect the production of the iPhone SE 2.

However, a report claims that Apple's supply chain is equipped to withstand extreme scenarios. The Cupertino company has substantial components dual-sourced when it comes to geography and vendors. In other words, there might be disruption in China; however, immediate impact in the iPhone's production is not expected.

The coronavirus outbreak is already affecting the global economy, not only China. Banning travel and extending holidays would have immediate negative repercussions on Asian countries and eventually affect the world's economy.

iPhone SE 2 Possible Specs

The iPhone SE 2 was first mentioned by TF Securities Analyst and Apple tipster Ming-Chi Kuo. According to him, the upcoming handset would feature the same design as the iPhone 8. The iPhone SE 2 would be Apple's entry-level iPhone this year.

Earlier leaks revealed that the affordable iPhone would house the A13 Bionic chip, which is currently found on the iPhone 11 series. It would also feature a 4.7-inch LED display and a single 12 MP primary camera, and 12 MP front camera. The iPhone SE 2 is anticipated to pack a 1,950 mAH battery and 3 GB of RAM.

Moreover, the iPhone SE 2 reportedly would retail at $399 and might arrive on Mar. 2020. These details, however interesting, are not yet official. These are mere speculations, so we suggest not to get too excited about it.

Meanwhile, Apple asked its suppliers earlier this month to increase its iPhone production for the first six months of this year. It includes the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE 2 models. Apple's request to ramp-up the production of these models reflects its aggressive pricing strategy. So far, Apple has reaped the rewards of this pricing strategy and has even become the fastest-growing brand in India in the last quarter of 2019.
