"The Sims" is one of the oldest series in the gaming industry, which maintained a massive player base. So far, the life simulation game has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide. A new statement from Electronic Arts executive seemingly confirmed that "The Sims 5" might have an online version.

"The Sims 5" Online Version

Since the release of the current generation title "The Sims 4," fans have been speculating about "The Sims 5," its features and new offerings. However, EA and Maxis are still mum about the game, although EA has previously confirmed that the game is coming soon. Recent news about Maxis allegedly working on a new IP quench speculations that the next "The Sims" iteration is happening.

But, it appears that a recent statement from EA CEO Andrew Wilson may have given fans a new hope and something to look forward to in "The Sims 5." During the company's recent earnings call, the CEO mentioned that the life simulation game has been in the industry for a couple of decades already.

Wilson toyed with the idea of offering the game to a much wider community where players could compare their creations. Additionally, he mentioned "The Sims for a new generation" and talked a little on how the elements of the game could be introduced to make it a part of the series.

"And so as Maxis continues to think about "The Sims" for a new generation across platforms in a cloud-enabled world, you should imagine that while we will always stay true to our inspiration, escape, creation, self-improvement, motivations, that this notion of social interaction and competition, like the kind of things that were actually present in The Sims FreePlay - sorry, in 'The Sims Online' many, many years ago, that they will start to become part of the ongoing Sims experience in the years to come," the CEO stated.

It is worth noting, however, that the CEO did not explicitly mention "The Sims 5" in his statement. The online version the CEO was talking about could be looking for ways to make "The Sims 4" available in other platforms. But, it could also be about "The Sims 5," since it mentioned the term 'for a new generation.

"The Sims 5" Rumors And Leaks

Earlier, EA said that it would release "The Sims 5" when all the contents of "The Sims 4" were already rolled out. So far, "The Sims 4" is enjoying a wide reception on the industry with a high level of active users because of its new content introduced in the game. The company, however, has not yet officially announced details of the next "The Sims" iteration.

So far, it only said that it is in the works. Fans, at this point, should not get their hopes high about "The Sims 5." We would surely hear more about the online version of "The Sims" in the coming days.
