Samsung was the first tech company to introduce a new wave of the foldable smartphone in the market. Huawei also released its foldable Mate X but made it available to specific regions. Motorola is the third company to introduce a foldable smartphone, but, unlike its rivals, it folds horizontally.
Motorola Razr in Durability Test
Foldable smartphones are in their early stage in the market, which is why many consumers would like to know if it is durable or not, considering that they are premium-priced. CNET recently conducted a durability test to Motorola Razr, in the same way, that it did to Samsung Galaxy Fold when it was released in the market. The tech site used the SquareTrade's FoldBot, a machine that repeatedly folds the smartphones for thousands of times.
The Motorola Razr's hinge began acting weird on the 27,000 folds. While it appears to be a lot of times already, according to a study, average Americans check on their phones 80 times each day. It means there is a chance that the Motorola Razr could start showing issues with its hinge after a year's use.
However, even if the hinge of the Motorola Razr gave up on the 27,000th fold, its screen remained intact. CNET also conducted the same durability test to Samsung Galaxy Fold last year. While the foldable smartphone from Samsung lasted up to 119,380 folds, its screen broke when the test ended.
Motorola Razr Missing Specs And Features
On Thursday, Verizon launches the Motorola Razr, which is a nostalgic representation of the Razr released in the 2000s. It retails at $1,499 and houses a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The issue here is that the SD 710 is a 2018 SoC, while other flagship smartphones already house SD 855 or SD 855 Plus.
The new Motorola Razr sports a 6GB RAM, just like all other Android smartphones, which are available at a much lesser cost. The new foldable smartphone has some missing features that more affordable Android smartphones have. It includes a dual or triple-lens camera configuration, advanced facial recognition, and a massive battery pack.
The Motorola Razr only packs 2510mAh battery capacity and runs on Android 9. Another interesting news about this new foldable smartphone is that according to GSM Arena, it is next to impossible to repair. The company is offering a warranty screen replacement fee of $299.
So far, the device is only available for Verizon in the US and EE in the UK.
