Prince William and Kate Middleton are getting more work in the royal family this year. Following Prince Harry and Meghan's decision to step back from the royal family, Queen Elizabeth is, apparently, entrusting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with more sensitive royal trips to prepare them for their future rules as the future King and Queen of England.
In October 2019, Prince William and Kate had a successful tour of Pakistan. This was followed by Prince William's solo visit to Oman and Kuwait just before the holidays last year.
But, as Prince William and Kate's work increase, their responsibility to the British monarchy also increases. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams warned that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge should be very careful to avoid committing the same mistakes as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in the past.
Apparently, in 1997, Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh went to Pakistan and India after then-Foreign Secretary Robin Cook offered to "help in brokering a solution for Kashmir." Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip also visited Amritsar, where some 379 protesters were gunned down by British troops in 1919.
However, the outrage from the public wasn't met with any apology from Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The latter even apparently fanned the flames when he said that the number of people massacred could have been exaggerated.
Fitzwilliams recalled that this royal tour wasn't a success. Thus, he hopes Prince William and Kate will learn from Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's diplomatic mistakes.
The royal expert also said that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's star is definitely on the rise. If they are asked to do more, then they must also be responsive to the public relations.
Meanwhile, sources inside the palace said that the Queen is quite delighted with the Duchess of Cambridge, who is growing in confidence in her future role as the Queen Consort. According to royal expert Ingrid Seward, Her Majesty is quite reliant on Kate because she is "stable" than her sister-in-law Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.
However, Steward also believes that Kate was never threatened by the presence of Meghan in the royal family. The royal expert also said that it might be a huge weight off Kate's shoulders now that she doesn't have to worry about Prince Harry and Meghan anymore since they are going to be spending more time in Canada and North America.
