Prince George is the firstborn of Prince William and Kate Middleton. He is the third in the line of succession to the British throne behind Prince Charles and the Duke of Cambridge.
However, a royal expert previously claimed that Prince George will never be King. Former BBC Royal Correspondent Christopher Lee said that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s eldest son will never wear the crown someday.
Christopher Lee pointed out that the popularity of the monarchy is all because of Queen Elizabeth. Her Majesty is well-loved by many, making her reign a very successful one. The royal expert then shared that the Queen’s successor, Prince Charles, is far less popular, which may downgrade the interest in the monarchy.
With that in mind, Christopher Lee believed that the monarchy will no longer exist by the time that Prince George is ready to become King. Therefore, he will not get the chance to wear the crown.
“Voting for a monarchy is supporting an institution. Voting for the sovereign is quite a different X-factor,” he wrote. “The sovereign is a celebrity and celebrity is everything. The Queen is probably among the top ten brand images in the world. Oddly, and in spite of general perceptions, the world has only a superficial view of the Queen, unlike her children and grandchildren who are gossip fodder – two open adulterers, two sons of a serial adulterer. This is the very stuff of the British monarchy. The Queen is different.”
The former BBC Royal Correspondent said that after Queen Elizabeth’s reign, the monarchy will suffer under Prince Charles’ institution. He also argued that the monarch, as the Supreme Governor of the Church, will lose an instrument of the state and will eventually lead to the Church of England being disestablished from parliamentary control.
Christopher Lee even claimed that when Queen Elizabeth passes away, there is a high chance that Canada and Australia will vote for Republicanism. He also believed that others will follow this decision. “The monarch’s symbolic role within that association of a quarter of the world's states will be reduced,” he said.
Meanwhile, even though Prince Charles is not as popular as Queen Elizabeth, he has gained a lot of respect from the public for working as hard as he can. In fact, when the Prince of Wales’ feet and hands were swollen during a royal engagement, he still pursued his duty with a smile on his face.
