Queen Elizabeth just couldn’t catch a break from all the heartaches that have been happening in the Royal Family. As if the decision of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to quit senior life is not enough, Her Majesty has to face yet another heartbreaking news.
The monarch’s reported “favorite grandson” Peter Phillips is ending his marriage from wife Autumn. Queen Elizabeth was spotted at King's Lynn railway station in Norfolk, boarding a train to return to London after the news broke and reports revealed that she looked stern.
"They had reached the conclusion that this was the best course of action for their two children and ongoing friendship,” the spokesman said regarding Peter Phillips and Autumn’s separation. “The decision to divorce and share custody came about after many months of discussions and, although sad, is an amicable one.”
The spokesman noted that despite the outcome of their marriage, the elder child and only son of Anne, Princess Royal, and his wife’s top priority is their children.
“The couple's first priority will remain the continued well-being and upbringing of their wonderful daughters, Savannah and Isla,” the spokesperson added. "Both families were naturally sad at the announcement but fully supportive of Peter and Autumn in the joint decision to co-parent their children. Both Peter and Autumn have remained in Gloucestershire to bring up their two children where they have been settled for a number of years."
Just last month, Queen Elizabeth had to deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision of stepping back from being senior royals. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said that they wish to be “financially independent” as they live part-time in the U.S. and the U.K.
Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s announcement was a huge deal in the royal family household, Queen Elizabeth was left with no choice but to cut her winter break short. Her Majesty, then, summoned the main members of the royal family to discuss the matter.
“Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family,” the Buckingham Palace statement read. “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”
The statement revealed that Queen Elizabeth supports Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision. But, she did point out that the process is complex so the final decisions will be “reached in the coming days.”
