Prince William once had a plan to leave the U.K. and move to America to forge his path and have a private life. Unearthed reports revealed that the Duke of Cambridge was criticized for being a reluctant royal who wasn't ready to take his destiny.

According to Daily Express, Prince William was considering a move to the U.S. after completing his studies at the University of St Andrews, where he met his wife, Kate Middleton. An old report from The Scotman stated that Prince William enjoyed the degree of privacy he received as a student in the Scottish institution that he wanted to pursue a postgraduate degree in America to have the same kind of private life.

Reporter Louisa Pearson said that Prince William was determined, at that time, to "forge his path," so he did not take on many royal duties. People called the second in line to the British throne as a reluctant royal. His choices then were not much different from Prince Harry's decision today.

Prince Harry's biggest driving force in his decision to step back as a senior member of the royal family is to protect his wife, Meghan Markle, and son Archie Harrison, from the prying eyes of the British tabloid media. In choosing a more private life, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have decided to spend most of their time in Canada and the U.S. They will officially become private citizens and be financially independent of the royal coffers by spring 2020, as Queen Elizabeth confirmed.

But it's not just Prince Harry and Prince William who wanted to leave the U.K. for the U.S. Their mother also once had a plan to uproot their lives, but she tragically died and left her 15-year-old and a 12-year-old son.

Princess Diana's former butler Paul Burrell revealed that the Princess of Wales was also planning to live in California after she separated from Prince Charles. Reports stated that Princess Diana planned on bringing Prince William and Prince Harry stateside to live in Malibu. She even picked the house for their new life in America.

Princess Diana told her former butler that no one was judgmental in America, and a class system doesn't exist. Burrell believed that the royal family would not have prevented her from doing this.

Meanwhile, now living far apart from each other, Prince William and Prince Harry are reportedly talking more on the phone. Despite a rumored rift, Diana's boys seem to be adjusting from their new roles and different paths.
