Sony Hints PS5 Reveal Timeline
However, a recent statement from Sony may have already given away the timeline that it would follow for the PS5. The new report comes from the Motley Fool, which has the transcript of the company's recent earnings call. At the meeting, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki made it clear that it would reveal the PS5 when the time is right.
The report also underlines the executive's statement when it said that the PS5 official reveal would follow what Sony has been doing in the past for its previous generations gaming consoles. "It's very difficult to really discuss this timing-wise, but as of today, we will provide the guidance at a time period, which is comparable to the past. So we will not change the time schedule," Hiroki said.
PS4 Reveal Details
Sony invited media to a special PlayStation Meeting last Feb. 20, 2013. The event was held at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. It was during this event that Sony revealed its launch plans for the PlayStation 4.
At this special PlayStation Meeting, the industry learned about the details about the hardware as revealed by Sony Interactive Entertainment Lead Architect Mark Cerny. Several details about the DualShock 4 controller as well as a smartphone app was announced. During the event, Sony also revealed the release window of the PS4, which is sometime in the holiday of 2013.

Based on Hiroki's statement, there is a chance that we might see the official unveiling of the PS5 this month. This timeline could allow Sony's partners to prepare for the arrival of the PS5, which is sometime in the holiday of 2020. Also, it is likely that Sony might hold the same PlayStation Meeting this year and have it at night so those who work could watch it at home.
Last month, a Reddit user found a reservation for a place in New York in the last part of Feb. 2020. Many think that this could be the PlayStation Meeting Sony arranged for the official unveiling of the PS5. However, nothing is written in the stone yet, and all of these are mere speculations.
