Queen Elizabeth previously released a statement via the Buckingham Palace that she supports Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision of stepping down as senior royals. But just like everyone else, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s choice also came with a price.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not only lose their HRH titles and the Duke of Sussex’s military title, but they will also be banned from using the word “royal” in their activities. The couple’s recent statement seemingly showed their discontent with Queen Elizabeth’s decision.
“While there is not any jurisdiction by the monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word “royal” overseas, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use Sussex Royal or any iteration of the word royal in any territory, either with-in the UK or otherwise when the transition occurs spring 2020,” the statement read.
A royal source revealed that Queen Elizabeth tried her best to accommodate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wishes while maintaining the reputation of the monarchy. The insider claimed that Her Majesty was unhappy with how things have led to an extraordinary bout of feuding.
“She’s just extremely disappointed that it’s turned out like this. I think she is upset and saddened by it all,” the insider shared.
Royal insider Richard Fitzwilliams said that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should know better when they decided to quit as senior royals.
“They wanted to make a point with this - but did they need to?” he told Australia’s Sunrise program. “They feel they are being victimized by being put on a 12-month probation. They wanted to remain part-time working royals. They wanted to be able to use their titles. The Queen stepped in with this decision because she had to. Harry should have shown more humility.”
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently residing at a $14 million waterfront Vancouver Island mansion. The insider shared that the family-of-three are enjoying their lives after announcing their bombshell departure news in early January.
“Meghan has no regrets and the sky's the limit. She said [she and Harry] feel like a huge weight has been lifted,” the source said. “They've been spending quality time together as a family. Meghan has been cooking and making homemade baby food for Archie.”
