The new novel coronavirus is currently creating havoc, and instilling fear among people from every corner of the world. A total of about 62 countries is now affected by the virus, while others are on the verge of it.
Among the 62 countries affected worldwide, there are these three countries who have already experienced the worse. These are China (with a total number of cases of about 79,257 and deaths of about 2,835), South Korea (total number of cases of about 3,150 and deaths of 17), and Iran (which has 593 total number of cases and 43 total number of deaths), as reported by Worldometer.
With these effects, the new novel coronavirus seems inevitable. Even authorities claim the global crisis won't slow down anytime soon. "Now's the time for businesses, hospitals, community schools, and everyday people to begin preparing", Dr. Nancy Messonnire, the director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As of the present, there is still no treatment available to combat the virus. With this truth, how can we prepare ourselves with the widespread of the new coronavirus? How can we protect ourselves from it?
PRACTICE GOOD HYGIENE HABITS
Washing your hands often is still the best way to protect yourselves from the virus. Wash it with soap and water for at least 20 seconds if you have the opportunity. But if you are outside the house, using a hand sanitizer that has 60% to 95% alcohol is still as good, as advised by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Also, make sure to cover your mouths with your sleeves, tissue or handkerchief when sneezing or coughing. You should also avoid touching your hands to your mouth, eyes, and nose while outside your house, sanitize the things that are usually touched by people, and get yourself a flu shot.
STAY INSIDE YOUR HOMES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
You will never know what lies ahead on the other side of the road. So to keep yourself safe, better stay at home instead. Talk to your employer if you can work home-based or ditch your date, concert, and friend's jamming for a while. Just stay indoors to limit your possibility of acquiring the disease. Also, when purchasing groceries and food supply for you and your family, better to buy in bulk. Doing so won't require you to purchase goods anytime soon.
Dr. George Rutherford, a professor of epidemiology and biostatics at the University of California in San Francisco shared the importance of following these tips. According to Rutherford, without considering and applying these tips, "you're going to start seeing a lot more cases" in the coming days.
