Ivanka Trump has officially registered as a Republican years after voting as a Democrat. The president's daughter said that she is now a "proud Trump Republican," after changing her voting status in New York.

Donald Trump's eldest daughter told the New York Times that she registered red to vote for her father in New York. It comes as the primary in the state begins in April.

Before her father became the president, Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner were actually donors to many liberal causes and candidates. They also both have liberal leanings about gay rights, climate change, and gun control, which goes against the president's politics.

However, Ivanka said that "outside of her portfolio," she leans more to the conservative viewpoints of the Republicans than the Democrats of today. Ivanka also reiterated that joining the Republican Party will enable her to broaden his father's reach across America. She said that this is what's most important for her when casting votes for the midterm elections is months away.

The New York City Board of Elections said that Ivanka switched from blue to red last October 2018. In 2016, Ivanka was not able to vote because they didn't register as Republicans and the deadline has passed. Her husband, on the other hand, switched his party affiliations in late 2019. They both said that they are comfortable with their choice.

Following Ivanka's revelation, the Manhattan Republican Party welcomed the president's daughter into their fold. Chairperson Andrea Catsimatidis said that having two more members from the Trump family will energize the base even more.

Meanwhile, Ivanka was criticized on Twitter as she urged the American public to help her father against the coronavirus scare. She said in a post on Twitter that people should put aside their differences to work together to support the leadership in this fight.

Critics of the president, however, pointed out that Trump must stop muzzling the scientist and the people from the Center for Disease Control. The president must actually let them speak the truth and not start propaganda.

As of press time, nine people in the U.S. have died due to COVID-19. Several schools have also closed to prevent the spread as some are apparently showing symptoms. However, the president's people have been reminding the public not to panic as the risks is quite low. Several people have also been hoarding face masks, toilet paper and alcohol to disinfect themselves. Medical experts, however, said that the best defense against this Coronavirus strain is to wash hands frequently with soap and water.
