Prince William and Kate Middleton are currently in Ireland, which marked their first official visit to the State. While their trip is going smoothly so far, royal fans are crossing their fingers that the couple will not make the same mistake as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did regarding Irish history.

Reporter Caitlin McBride pointed out that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a major error on their Sussex Royal website. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle incorrectly listed Ireland as part of the Commonwealth that angered a lot of Irish fans.

“Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have claimed their Irish mini-moon was an effort to strengthen the Commonwealth – even though Ireland is not a member of the group,” she explained. “The boast about their trip to Dublin in 2018 will likely be considered one of their first major diplomatic blunders since Ms. Markle and Prince Harry announced plans to ‘step back from their roles within the Royal Family.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have emphasized their passion for the Commonwealth multiple times. This blunder could undo some of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s diplomatic work from 2018.

“Considering how often they have championed the importance of the Commonwealth, you’d think they’d know that Ireland isn’t in it,” reporter Olivia Fahy said. “It’s a shame to see as they are promoting themselves as moving to modernize the monarchy, but errors like this make them seem more in line with the old ways than they may think.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced in January that they will be stepping down as senior royals to focus on their family and charities. But despite the step-back, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed that they still wish to serve Queen Elizabeth, but Her Majesty declined their request.

BBC’s former royal correspondent Peter Hunt claims that Queen Elizabeth “doesn’t take kindly to being bounced or indeed being blindsided,” so she will not give in to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s plans. Aside from losing their HRH titles and the Duke of Sussex’s military title, the couple is also banned from using the term “royal” in any upcoming ventures.

“With government regulations and royal rules on her side, the Queen has imposed her final restriction on the couple embarking on a self-imposed exile,” Peter Hunt said. “Sussex Royal can be no more. A freshly branded website will have to be re-branded.”
