Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK to complete their last outings as working royals. On Monday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were all smiles as they arrived at the worldwide famous abbey in central London ahead of the Commonwealth Day service.

The couple sat on the second row next to Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex. By their order of precedence, Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived a few moments later and were showed their seats in the first row. Meghan Markle was then spotted giving them a tiny wave and appeared to say hello.

Despite being dubbed as the “Royal Trio” in the past for their tight bond, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry barely interacted. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge first greeted Prince Edward and Sophie, then said hello back to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who answered with a smile.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex then appeared to have a deep conversation with Prince Edward and Sophie, while Prince William and Kate Middleton talked with each other. It was as if the Cambridges and Sussexes didn’t know each other, and a royal expert noticed this.

“AWKWARD: Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex are in the second row of royal seats,” Patricia Treble wrote on Twitter. “Prince Edward makes a point of chatting with them while Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge appear to have no interaction with Harry and Meghan.”

The couple also recently attended the Mountbatten Music Festival, where fans noticed that Prince Harry appeared to be sad. While the Duke and Duchess looked like the image of pure bliss on the red carpet, they showed a contrast image while they were inside the car. A body language expert then analyzed the Prince’s body language.

“Harry’s smile has vanished here, to be replaced by a very distant, reflective and rather sorrowful looking eye expression,” she said. “It looks eerily similar to the facial expression his mother Diana showed us from the car window once her own rejection from the Royal Family looked inevitable. It emphasizes the fact that, despite all his upbeat grinning poses, his move away from his family and all his ties in the UK is not something that he is doing either easily or without some sadness.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle don't have any more royal engagement lined up.
