Queen Elizabeth II left Buckingham Palace over the weekend to go to Windsor Castle amidst the coronavirus outbreak. So far, Her Majesty already canceled two royal engagements due to the Covid-19 scare and was brought to her residence in the English county of Berkshire.
A source confirmed to The Sun that the monarch is in good health, but it was believed that the best to do was to bring her to Windsor. Due to the rising confirmed cases of the virus in the U.K., a lot of her staff is said to be panicking over the disease.
Buckingham Palace is known for having a stream of visitors, from politicians to dignitaries from all over the world. Queen Elizabeth even met a lot of people there recently. As she is about to turn 94 years old in April, she is believed to be susceptible to the disease. So, her advisers know that it is best to get her out of the harm's way and bring her somewhere else.
Buckingham Palace is situated in the middle of London and has a lot of staff compared to other estates. So, in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak, it is deemed to be a "much more dangerous" place. Although there are no scares or positive cases there yet, nobody wants to take the risk.
However, although there are beliefs that she went to her Berkshire residence due to the coronavirus outbreak, Hello! Magazine reported that Windsor is where she regularly stays on weekends, and she will be back at Buckingham Palace on weekdays. She is spending her time at Windsor Castle with her husband, Prince Philip.
After Prince Philip retired from his royal duties, he spends the majority of his time at Windsor Castle. It is close to where Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, live with their children, Lady Louise and James Viscount, at Bagshot Park.
Prince Andrew also lives nearby at the Royal Lodge, along with his former wife, Sarah Ferguson. It is also near Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Frogmore Cottage. When the Sussexes were in the U.K. last week, they attended the Sunday church service at The Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor with Queen Elizabeth.
Queen Elizabeth has several homes in the U.K. that she can go to whenever she wants. Aside from Windsor Castle, she also owns Sandringham Estate, where the royal family spends Christmas. She also has a home at Balmoral in Scotland, where they enjoy horse riding and country walks.
