OnePlus is yet to confirm a specific launch date for its next-generation flagship smartphones, but already, the public seems very enthusiastic about the upcoming event. It's rumored to happen sometime in April, but what's this thing Robert Downey Jr. is seen holding?
News of the OnePlus 8 Pro started when 9to5Google leaked its existence, claiming that the device was to have a vertical 4-camera array on the phone's rear. Now, on the set of the smartphone-maker's commercial is RDJ, the brand's global ambassador, who was pictured holding a device with a quad-cam.
Stills from the set were then posted on Instagram, which is being reported as "accidental." Are we buying it? The "accidental" part, no -- it's more of a tease, to be honest. The device isn't fully shown on the pictures, but it appears the OnePlus 8 Pro if it really is, comes in copper.
Both the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are reported to ship with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, whereas the OnePlus 8 Lite, which is the more affordable model, could feature Dimensity 1000 by MediaTek. Its selfie camera will be a hole-punch cutout, and the flagships' screen, a 120Hz Fluid AMOLED. And while the 8 Pro supports wireless charging, the standard 8 doesn't, but that shouldn't be a big of a deal, should it?
As for the company's mobile OS, the company has since made changes. The OxygenOS is now better than it was, and it's actually one of the best skins you'll find on Android. It's better than Android One devices now as the interface is now free of any bloat, plus there are some neat additions too.
So the display is smoother and the chipset, more powerful, but what about the camera? Surely, the OnePlus 8 lineup could use some spectacular upgrade.
The OnePlus line of phones' hardware isn't any different from Huawei's or Samsung's flagship, but the company's biggest issue has always been its cameras. Imaging-wise, the company hasn't reached that level wherein it would be considered as masters of photography.
OnePlus is aware of this, so it built a lab in Taiwan especially for its cameras and gathered the greatest engineers it could find tor rectify the issue.
We believe we're getting close to seeing the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, and while we're excited, we're hoping the cameras will have improvements in them. Only time will tell if what RDJ is holding is indeed the phone with superb upgrades.
