A plethora of leaks and speculations about the OnePlus 8 series flood the Internet since last month. Since OnePlus is rumored to release three models under the upcoming series, the assumption is that it would release a 5G variant for its most expensive model. But, it looks like the Chinese smartphone maker has other plans, which includes equipping all OnePlus 8 models with 5G wireless network connectivity support.
The latest news comes directly from the horse's mouth in a recent interview. OnePlus Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder Pete Lau shared about the upcoming OnePlus 8 series and confirmed several interesting details about the flagship smartphone. One of these is that all OnePlus 8 models will be more expensive than their predecessors because all of them will feature 5G support.
Although the CEO confirmed the possible increase in the price of the upcoming flagship smartphones, he also promised that the price would not go anywhere near the $1000 mark. "I think that this year again everyone should expect a lot to look forward to in 5G products with a reasonable price," the CEO said. He added that "the new technology does add cost, so costs have risen in comparison to 4G products."
This suggests that the 5G OnePlus 8 smartphones could be more costly compared to current generation 4G handsets. Lau also shared that OnePlus has been investing in the next generation wireless network connectivity for years, and the company sees this as its direction moving forward. Earlier leaks revealed that the OnePlus 8 series would house the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Soc, which comes with Snapdragon X55 modem.
This alone is a solid proof that the phones will feature 5G support. The current trend in the smartphone industry is releasing devices equipped with 5G support. While Lau's statement is no longer surprising to consumers, his confirmation should be an advance announcement about the price of the upcoming OnePlus 8 series.
Earlier leaks revealed that the company would also release the OnePlus 8 Lite model. This is the cheaper variant that was initially rumored to house a Mediatek SoC. This could be the company's 4G handset. However, it is possible that the variant could be released in the later part of the separate to its siblings.
The OnePlus 8 series is anticipated to launch on Apr. 2020. This means we are just a few days away from finally seeing the flagship smartphone series from the Chinese smartphone company. We will keep you posted on the latest news and update about the OnePlus 8 series and other tech and gadgets as soon as we pick up interesting information.
