The second season of Kingdom is already taking the world by storm as the period drama delivers even more zombies along with a truly gripping story of survival. In addition to trying to save the people around him, Crown Prince Lee Chang is also hoping to reclaim the throne from Queen Consort Cho who is planning to use the onslaught of the undead to maintain her power. However, there was one more thing that had people talking about the Netflix series. Season 2 concluded with the shocking introduction of veteran actress Jun Ji Hyun as a surprise character who could play a larger role in a possible third season.
In the previous season finale, it looked like all hope was lost as the zombies have been revealed to be capable of moving during the daytime while Seo Bi and Cho Beom Pal appeared to be trapped in the cave where the Resurrection Flower was found. However, Prince Lee Chang decided to use his wits to defeat the undead in the premiere episode of Kingdom Season 2. By plunging the walking corpses into the frozen lake, he realized that the worms that caused the resurrection could be killed by the cold. However, finding a cure is the last of Lee Chang's worries.
It was also revealed that Queen Consort Cho was the one who had unleashed the vile disease onto the kingdom. In addition to that, she is unwilling to give up the throne and decides that she and her newborn son will be killed by the zombies instead. Luckily, Seo Bi was able to grab the infant at the last minute and runs away while the queen was consumed by the undead.
The season was supposed to conclude with Lee Chang giving up his claim to the throne so the baby could rule when he comes of age. In the meantime, the prince had himself written off as being killed in the war while he and Seo Bi set off to find a cure for the disease. As the show takes a huge timejump, Lee Chang and Seo Bi discover that the undead have returned and discover that someone is bringing them to the kingdom.
At the final moment of Kingdom Season 2, it is revealed that a woman might be behind the sudden return of the zombies. Moreover, she is revealed to be played by none other than Legend of the Blue Sea actress Jun Ji Hyun. Needless to say, fans went crazy over the revelation since it could mean that the story isn't over and Ji Hyun could play a larger role in the third season.
