Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States, has some tips on the best things to do during a coronavirus quarantine. She shared on Twitter that now is a good time to reconnect with loved ones via FaceTime, or bond with family, or read a book and get back on a hobby since many Americans are staying home for a few weeks.
The wife of President Donald Trump earlier advised her followers to practice social distancing to prevent the virus spread. She also reminded the public that it's St. Patrick's Day on March 17. To celebrate the holiday, Melania said that people must still focus on staying safe and healthy.
Officials in the Trump government told Americans on Monday, March 16, to avoid mass gatherings for the next 15 days. Some bars, restaurants and entertainment sites, such as theaters and movie houses, have also been ordered close by different mayors across U.S. states. Several businesses and enterprises have shut down as well as workers are told to isolate themselves to prevent the virus from infecting more people.
President Trump said that the coronavirus outbreak may continue until the summer or until August. He's calling on everyone, however, to take some chances so that they will have a big celebration after the outbreak.
Critics of the Trumps have been largely blaming the president for his delayed response to a public health crisis. Cases in the U.S. have risen to over a thousand and there is now at least one positive coronavirus case in every state.
The Trump administration has yet to improve its access to coronavirus medical tests as the Center for Disease Control said there is a shortage of test kits. Those with suspected symptoms are advised to self-quarantine and not overwhelm the hospitals. They are advised to see the doctor if they are the elderly or they have pre-existing conditions, and if they recently traveled abroad or may have contracted the virus from someone who is positive.
Melania's suggestions on what to do during the quarantine drew some negative reactions as well, per Daily Express. They called out the First Lady for her tips since millions of Americans won't be able to afford to stay at home during this crisis as they will get no pay.
However, supporters of Melania also posted comments on her recommended activities. They thanked her for the reminder that life still goes on even as the pandemic is causing panic and endangering the elderly and the immunocompromised.
