Princess Beatrice may be one of the well-known members of the Royal Family, but she doesn’t have a role like most of them. However, things may change now that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles are on self-quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The current Counselors of State are Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry, and Prince Andrew. However, most of the members are not capable to perform their duties at the moment. That being said, the Regency Act 1937 paves the way for a sixth counselor to be named, according to Royal Central.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles are currently on self-quarantine, Prince Philip already retired in 2017, and Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have already quit their royal duties. This only leaves Prince William as an active counselor. But since Princess Beatrice is ninth in line to the throne of succession, she may be given a new role.
It is worth noting that there is no announcement regarding this matter as of this writing.
Meanwhile, Robert Lacey, a renowned biographer and the historical consultant for Netflix series The Crown, previously said that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie could possibly step into Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s roles.
“It's quite clear that one of the consequences is that Beatrice and Eugenie will now be brought forward – if they're willing to be brought forward,” he told HELLO! magazine. “If two go out, two have got to come in, and those two have got to be Beatrice and Eugenie.”
Robert Lacey said that Prince Harry’s cousins are the obvious choice. They are the daughters of Queen Elizabeth’s third child and second son Prince Andrew.
“It's what the family needs as it's another 15 years before Prince George's generation steps up,” he added. “It's ironic that Harry mentioned his cousins as models of how he wants to be.”
Prince Harry is sixth in the line of succession to the British throne and Archie is seventh. Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are, currently, 9th and 10th in the line and are not part of the senior royals.
But the princesses’ place could bump up after the Duke of Sussex’s withdrawal. If that is the case, then Princess Beatrice will be sixth in line to the throne, and Princess Eugenie will be seventh, making them senior royals.
